Aus loco discussion mailing list
Peter,
That's exactly how they are hauled. For example, last Sunday about 1750,
CG12 was approaching Raglan (Rockhampton to Gladstone) with 2 diesels (dead
attached) behind the two lead electrics and DH72 in the middle of the train.
The DH was returning from its stint up north on flood repair work on ballast
trains.
The regular Friday night train, 6G16 from Rockhampton, invariably has a
diesel hauling electric locomotives back to Callemondah. At present, 2800
class locos are hauling 3900 class electric locos dead to Maryborough West
as part of the trial to use 2800 class locomotives through to Brisbane.
Many electric hauled freights to Brisbane have diesel locomotives attached
dead. These diesel locos are usually bound for Bundaberg, Maryborough West
or Redbank.
For loco balancing, freights between Rockhampton and Townsville often have
locos attached dead - mainly 2800 class. Double heading of 2800 class locos
on this section is the exception than the rule.
