ARHS(WA) owned XA Class locos

Aus loco discussion mailing list

It seems our friend Mr Forster takes things he reads on Ausloco to
heart, as he recently raised at an ARHS meeting the postings I made
regarding the rumoured possibility of a new operator, and their
rumoured approach to ARHS regarding the purchase or lease of locomotives
and rolling stock. This was made quiet clear that it was only a
rumour. Mr Forster then went on to clearly state ARHS's position with
regard to the future operation of the two Metro Vickers locos XA1405 &
XA1402, namely there is no future, indicating numerous operational
difficulties as the reason.

While ARHS state there has been no official approach from another
operator it was a strong rumour within non ARHS railway circles at the
time.

It must be noted that significant ARHS funds were used to purchase these
locos, with one sole member donating the funds for XA1405. They were
bought as running locomotives to gain revenue for the Society and have
since been very poorly cared for. A great number of people share my
view in relation to this.
It is a great shame both to ARHS members and the general railway
enthusiast what has been allowed to happen to these locomotives.

Enough said

John
