An interesting trip was had by all and sundry on SN36 today as a result of
the derailment in the Engine Dive today.  My initial thought last night with
the dodgy TV pictures that the ESR was affected, however this morning there
was nothing blocking the dive there as we passed the salubrious outskirts of
Eveleigh turntable.  There the fun began.  The Illawarra dive was
red-flagged out of action and I assumed we would cross over to the Suburban
and thence into Sydney Terminal via the Wells St crossovers.  However, we
Terminated at Redfern, Platform 9 on the Illawarra Local at 08:11 (ETA
Sydney Terminal 08:12).  Confusion seemed to reign.  The driver exited to
the platform to discuss matters with the inspector on the platform and those
of us in the know knew we weren't going any further dived out (it turns out
SN36 was officially terminated 2 minutes later).
 At a guess a lack of co-ordination between Sydenham and Control let us
cross over from the Up Illawarra Local to the Up Illawarra Main at Sydenham
as per usual instead of proceeding straight ahead as Control somehow seemed
to do for the Illawarra trains which continued on their merry way to Sydney
Terminal.
Another wonderful day on SN36.
