Re: Looking Back... Tas - a comparison!

The missing text - maybe this is it!
As an answer (maybe), "1460s, 1502s, and Tasmanian Diesels with head sets
and cd players" and "Tas a comparison" (basically in reply to Mike Dix's
post), the "NEW" Tasrail diesels (2000 class) that they sent to us from New
Zealand are one and the same only rebuilt (????) and improved (????). The
1460s were certainly noisier with their 567 engines and 2 hole exhausts,
compared with the 645 in the 1502 and with a three hole muffler. I would
dare to suggest that the 1502 class was one of the best diesels to run on
the QR and were certainly liked by their crews. They had a few more horses
with the newer engine, and were improved over the 1460s with the newer
technology which made them far more responsive.
In fact, as I don't get to see them all that often these days, someone might
answer if the Tasrail 2000s that are ex 1460 class still have their 567
engines, or have they been re-engined and upgraded to the same as the 645
powered locos.
Some of us older fellas remember seeing brand new Clydes and Poms
(Queensland terminology) being delivered brand spanking past the classroom
window nearly every day! And I still reckon they look far better with the
high nose! Those NZ alligator noses are just too severe.
