Adelaide A Type Nos 14, 15 & 17

The body of 14 came from Middle Beach, north of St Kilda, in December 1991, while 15 was retrieved from Fishermans Bay near Port Broughton in May 1986. The body of 17 was located in the Adelaide Hills in mid 2001. It is in very good condition, having been fully enclosed as part of a backyard shed since not long after it's purchase from the MTT in the early 1950s. It has had the motorman's bulkheads removed and a chimney protudes into one cabin.

Our aim is to restore two of these trams into a "Bib and Bub" pair.

These pictures of 15 were taken on the day we were preparing 355 for departure. 355 was at the back of the shed, so everything in front of it, including 15, had to be pulled out first. You also see the back of one of our newer Members, taking a break from other work to help monitor the progress of this tram.

This is the dolly that was made up for the body of 17.

The rear service tracks do not get used very often, so it is always necessary to prepare the track for any movement. This is especially true when that movement is to be a several ton tram body being pushed into a shed by hand. Here you see one of our Members applying oil to the track. The oil helps the wheels to roll smoothly. The gentleman doing the work has been described as "Australia's Premier Tram Cleaner". If you want a tram cleaned, he is your man! :-) (there is, of course, a story attached to this).
