Adelaide D Type 192

Adelaide D Type 192

This car was one of 4 built in 1912 by Duncan and Fraser for the PMTT. Because of their bulky appearance, they were known as "Zeppelins". They were all sold to the HTT in 1916 and then inherited by the MMTB, where they were the O Class and referred to as "Dreadnoughts". An aisle was cut through all of the full width cross bench seats (reducing the seating capacity from 54 to 49), and the original two GE202 50hp motors were replaced with GE201 65hp motors. In 1927 these four trams were sold to the MTT. D Type trams were last used in traffic in March 1958.

No 192 was one of the four original trams to arrive at the Museum in August 1958. It entered operational service with the Museum in 1975 and was one of a number of trams repainted between 1995 and 1998. One interesting feature of this tram is the HTT logo in one of the stained glass panels.

This car is currently in storage in the North Tram Shed.
